DIMAPUR, AUGUST 30

Consequent upon the ‘extremely unfortunate incident on August 28 at Pangsha ITC junction under Noklak Sub division in Tuensang, the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) said that it is the duty and functions of the security forces for the safety and safe keeping of both the people and territory for whichever the location that be, “this particular incident however needs to be drawn to public focus for ascertaining factual accounts beneficial to all concerned quarters.”
In a press release this evening, the ENPO said the ‘random outburst and assault’ by the security forces where innocent civilians were also unfortunate victims in the blind process is condemned and unwarranted.
“The incident smacks of intentional prejudices and insensitivity which seems to be harboured in the mindset of the security forces, and where a blanket attitude of suspiciousness and discrimination appears to be in-dwelt,” it added.
According to the ENPO statement, it took a particular note in the manner in which the overall incident unfolded.
“It has been a public knowledge over the past few weeks where the state government had made an earnest request to both the two Naga apex bodies i.e. the ENPO and the Naga Hoho for mutually and formally meeting the representatives of the NSCN(K), and if so possible Mr S.S. Khaplang, Chairman of the particular Naga political group.”
It is also worthwhile mentioning that the logistics for movement of both the apex bodies have been in pursuance, and where security clearance has been given by the Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI through the State Government, it further said.
“However the entry point into Myanmar was tentatively resolved for Pangsha ITC which was yet to be finalised due to Cross Border security problems particularly from the Myanmar Government, which was to be finalised only after ascertaining the specific date, meeting venue and the entry point, in which the route has to be designated with proper valid travel documents (refer letter No.9/2/2015-NE-II Govt. of India, Ministry of Home Affairs- NE Division Dated 05th August 2015),” the press release mentioned.
However the ENPO said it was dismayed and absolutely disheartened over the entire incident/episode which has thrown a spanner in the proposed programme which perhaps require clarification and due explanation from the State machinery, the district administration and the security apparatus of the incidental jurisdiction in regard to the movement of the NMA in particular, which in a way has unfortunately preceded the proposed programme of the two apex bodies.
“Furthermore, the ENPO and Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) had no knowledge about the movement and regretted to state that at least both the bodies should have been taken into confidence,” it stated.
The ENPO then conveyed its deep condolences to the bereaved family members and pray for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.

NSF condemns Pangsha killing

The Naga Students’ Federation has vehemently condemned the killing at Pangsha in Tuensang district and said, the ongoing political conflict cannot be solved through military might but through dialogue.
NSF general secretary Boveio Poukai Duo in a statement said, the Nagas since time have seen enough violence and bloodshed and appealed to the NSCN-K to resume ceasefire with the Government of India in the larger interest of the Nagas and solve the Naga political issue in an amicable and peaceful means.
“The Government of India is being applauded by the world community for displaying its sincerity to solve the longest political conflict in southeast Asia with dialogue while on the other hand, the same government is mercilessly and heedlessly taking lives under the aegis of ‘Friends of the Hill People’.”
Reminding the government of India that regardless of the factions, all Nagas are fighting for one common goal, the NSF insisted the government of India to respect the aspirations of the Naga people.
“The display of military might by the ‘Friends of the Hill People’ and random killing in the process of exterminating any Naga political group will append anger rather than impart fear, adding more chaos to the already complicated state of affairs.”
The federation urged all the armed groups and India to respect human lives and put an end to all forms of violence once for all.
