Pangnyu Phom appeals to keep vigil against entry of illegal immigrants

More than 40 lakh people were left out of the list.An update from Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has said that the minister, who is also the chairman of the Longleng DPDB, has cautioned while addressing the DPDB meeting on Aug. 18 that illegal immigrants from Assam could enter the district ‘after the success of the NRC in Assam. He has urged the people to keep a strict vigil and the competent authority to check ILP defaulters and check validity through proper documentation while issuing the pass.

He also urged the local populace not to “localize and harbour illegal immigration or approach the district administration to seek ILP on their behalf”.  With regard to issue of landownership, the minister informed that landowners have been compensated for donating their land for the district headquarters and therefore, appealed to the landowners not to create hindrance to any developmental activities. He asked the district administration to cancel all land permits issued to private individuals that comes under government land.

The minister also lauded the DPDB members under the leadership the deputy commissioner for initiating developmental activities ‘in the right perspectives and redressing various issues of the district. He further exhorted the local officers and staffs to be proactive in their approach and assist the officials coming from other district to provide serve the people of the Phom community.

The Deputy Commissioner, John Tsulise Sangtam, who is the vice-chair of the board, lauded the medical department of Longleng for successfully conducting the medical camp at Longleng and Tamly under BBBP in commemoration of Independence Day celebration.

He apprised the house that 1159 women and girl child registered and availed free medical facilities. Sangtam also appealed to the heads of offices to verify the departmental proposals properly before submitting to the DPDB to ensure that all government norms and criteria are fulfilled. He further urged the NGOs and the civil society to assist the district administration and the police force to stop influx of illegal immigration and maintain peaceful law and order in the district.

The DIPR reported that the board, after reviewing the last meeting minutes and briefing on the LADP aspects by the chairman, unanimously approved the proposed schemes and projects submitted by the elected members under LADP 2018-19 amounting to INR 83.75 lakh each for 49 A/C Tamlu and 50 A/C Longleng and INR 30 lakh under the common poll. Proposals for opening of new schools viz. St. John School at Sakshi, Holy Cross School at Yongnyah and Government Primary School at Shanglu were tabled.

Upgrading of Blooming Buds School, Longleng to class VIII, Change of nomenclature of Mt. Carmel School to Shamakok Mission School, Longleng and construction of new School building for GHSS, Longleng under the school education department were also recommended. The Board also approved the proposals of the chairman DPDB and Phom Peoples’ Council submitted separately for establishment of new offices and upgrading of two existing offices under Longleng district viz. creation of district employment officer office, weight and measure office, and superintendent of taxes office, setting of urban development department; and upgrading the existing junior engineers’ offices of housing and mechanic departments to that of SDOs.

Recommendations for the creation of additional village guards for the new villages and pig breeding farm for Yachem, Namsang and Yongnyah blocks under veterinary department were also tabled and discussed. Besides the board also recommended for upgrading of PHC Yachem to CHC under medical department. The Department of Soil presented the activities of the department.
