Dimapur, April 5 (EMN): The members of Passenger Amenities Committee (PAC) from the ministry of Railways, government of India has alleged that the local authorities concerned were responsible for stalling development works of Dimapur railway station purportedly by issuing land patta against Railway land. With the land encroachment issue still pending in the court, the PAC members pointed out that there was no cooperation from the state government in land encroachment issue even after submitting a report to the state government last August.
The committee appealed the state government for cooperation in this regard for the benefit of the people of the region. They were hopeful that with cooperation from government, the developmental activities in the pipeline will be fulfilled in days to come. Development of Dimapur railway station will remain the major aim of the committee with cooperation from the state government. said the visiting team.
“Dimapur is regarded as the second highest revenue earning railway station of North East and classified as ‘A’ model station,” PAC member LP Jayaswal who led the team told media persons at a press conference on Wednesday. However one serious impediment in development of the station is land encroachment issue for which the local authorities are solely responsible, reiterated Jayaswal.
The five-member PAC included LP Jayaswal, Ramanand Tripathy, Prabhunath Chauhan, Manisha Chatterjee and Sudhir Mishra along with railway officials from Lumding.
The team informed that their visit was to examine if the classification order of the ministry of Railways was being implemented, to look into various anomalies of the station and take stock of various issues plaguing Dimapur railway station. On the new railway line – Dhansiri (Dimapur) to Zubza (Kohima), which is in progress – the team updated that 30% of the work has been completed.
The PAC members further informed that Wi-fi service, a joint venture of Railtel and Google, will be launched in Dimapur railway station. However no specific details were provided by the members on enabling Wi-fi in Dimapur railway station.
The PAC members further said the committee would give a report to the Railway Board and suggest action against the officials concerned.
