‘Overground’ workers of NSCN-IM held for extortion

IMPHAL, OCTOBER 27: Imphal East district police commandoes have rounded up four “over ground” workers of the NSCN-IM from the residence of one Ringreingam Ruivah of Fairy Land in Imphal during an operation on Thursday morning, according to police sources.
The arrested activists were identified as Ningkangam Muivah alias Freeboy (37), Ramthem Muivah (35), Chonreisim Phunghsok alias Rogai (33), and Vivian Ruivah (40), all residents of Somdal village in Ukhrul district, the police said.
Three mobile phones and four SIM cards and a wallet containing Rs 6, 000 were seized from their possession.
“Verification reveals that they have involved in extortion of money from the general public, shopkeepers and government offices etc for raising party fund,” Police sources claimed. “The arrestees were handed over to Lamphel Police Station for investigation.”
Meanwhile another team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested a woman cadre of the banned UNLF from JNIMS porompat area on October 25,PRO police department said in a release. The arrested cadre has been identified as one S Sandhyarani devi alias Sanahanbi (19) of Langthabal Chingkhong.
Also, another team rounded up an active member of the banned RPF/PLA from Sawombung area on October 26. The arrested member has been identified as one Laithangbam Ibungomacha alias Bobo alias Joy (43) of babupara ward number 4, Jiribam, the release added.
