Mokokchung, Jan. 17 (EMN): More than seven hundred delegates from 17 units are attending the 37th Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) at Ungma village which got underway with Imtikumzuk, parliamentary secretary, as the chief host on January 17. The three-day conference which is scheduled to culminate on January 19 is being organised on the theme “Exceeding the possibilities.”
Addressing the delegation of students at Babu Tzubo Amphitheatre, the chief host urged the students’ community to strive to revive Ongpangkong’s past glory when it was at its peak in all fields.
Stating that Ongpangkong range was one of the forerunners in Naga political leadership, which had also produced top government officials, Imtikumzuk maintained that it should be the responsibility of the students to revive its past glory. In order to restore its past glory, the parliamentary secretary opined it needs wealth, excellence in education and be winners in all the competitions. He has attributed turmoil in the current state of affairs to selling of their votes.
In this connection, he encouraged the students to be ready to sacrifice their lives and wisdom to elect leaders base on their capability who could bring changes to the people and provide the basic necessity.
Jungshi S Jamir spoke on the topic “Exceeding the possibilities: Relooking the political scenario in Nagaland.” The speaker asserted that the present government mechanism is not efficient because the government is an opposition-less government.
Jamir also maintained that clean election campaign is a good initiative towards a progressive society, He, however, lamented that if there is no understanding between God and the individual than it would be a failure. In this regard, Jamir asserted having self control to achieve the desired goal. “If you do not have self control than you cannot bring change to your society,” the speaker said.
Short speeches were also delivered by C Angang Jamir, president of Ongpangkong Mungdang; Imkongwati, president of Ao Students Conference; Alemtoshi Imsong, chairman of Ungma village council; and the introduction of delegates was said by Tinuangshi, OKM information secretary. Rev. Dr. Noklen, pastor of Ungma Baptist Church, delivered his sermon and offered the invocation.
