[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]es, it was one year ago that T R Zeliang was sworn in as the chief minister of Nagaland. But we are not sure to conclude if there was a take-off (governing) of the T R Zeliang government. We are also not sure if there was delivery of governance of the DAN-III at all in the past one year in the state. In that logic, we are to ask whether the T R Zeliang government is one year old. For sure—we will not be in the wrong side to say one thing—in the past 365 days the subject of T R Zeliang government’s survival was the hottest page 1 story in Nagaland. This has been one visible achievement of the DAN-III, perhaps. But the greatest achievement is—TR Zeliang and his followers are the most regular faces in the airports of Dimapur and Delhi enjoying the conundrum. Now, if there was any celebration on the completion of one year by the T R Zeliang government or DAN-III the spirit of the celebration was obviously more of the recent position consolidation of the incumbent (victory over the rebels) rather than the reason the celebration was tagged.
Satirical jugglery aside, T R Zeliang and those leaders in the ‘Opposition-less government’ should understand is that their political nemesis and even critics wish them to always remember one important thing—Nagas are at a critical juncture. The people have no other choice but to continue reposing faith in the local government to help push for the Naga political solution.
Secondly, the state government should work to help solve the erratic power supply issue.
Also, go for all poll promises. Go ahead and press for deliver the goods. ‘This is not a time for second thoughts or worrying about political consequences’, as senior journalist Karan Thapar would advise the Narendra Modi government.
