On a Lonely Road

Far-distinct from the path to paradise,
Alone I tread the road of compromise
Weighed down heavily by past burden.
‘Tis a thorny road only few had trodden.

Masked in uncertainty, my future’s hazy.
Weakened in strength, legs become lazy.
Perturbed in thoughts, mind go crazy.
Lonely in sojourn, heart grows uneasy.

Times be when it gets too dreary hard –
I wish to give up and forget the reward.
But walk I must; face the harsh reality;
Deaf to discouraging calls of adversity.

Times be when I wish it’s just a dream-
A bad dream vanishing with a scream.
And scream I do but nothing changes.
Only this mortal body irreversibly ages.

I’m still on the same road
With the same heavy load.
There’re no friends in sight,
For their road leads to light.

Kept going by this flickering hope,
I’ll learn how to survive and cope.
While believing the road I tread today
Will guide me to my destiny someday.
