Dimapur, August 2

Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) had release a book on July 29 in a humble function with prayer in the residence of its president Kezhokhoto Savi in Kohima. The book is a compilation of newspaper clippings, Government order, High Court judgement and order in banning/ stopping the collection of cash in the check-gates and in any part of the highways. The book was released mainly for creating more awareness amongst the public to be distributed to all districts in the state. It was distributed freely during the programmes in several district headquarters and to business community especially truck owners and contractors so that they could carry with them while carrying building materials passing through the check-gates.
The NVCO has urged all interested organisations or individuals to get a copy free of cost to be use as a defence against illegal collection of cash and against corruption.
NVCO has supported the Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ZCCI) in their complaint against the various illegal taxations at various check gates by groups/ organizations.
NVCO was not surprised to learn that the drivers were made to pay more than Rs 3000 per trip for Zunheboto bound truck and other commercial vehicle along Jorhat-Mariani via Mokokchung district prior to their arrival in Zunheboto district markets. NVCO has questioned as to why the government agencies like Nagaland Police, Excise personnel, Sales Tax departments etc continue these illegal collections of cash and that too without proper ‘receipts’ thereby completely ignoring the government order dated 22nd June, 2009 issued by the Chief Secretary. It may be mentioned here that the State Government had decided henceforth no collection of taxes should be made by any organisation or individual including government departments such as Police, Excise, Forest and
Taxes departments etc.
As part of their awareness campaign programmes, NVCO led by its president, Kezhokhoto Savi, met the Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto, at his official chamber on July 17, 2015, and had submitted a representation to stop illegal collection of cash at the check-gates and in the highways enclosed with the High Court judgement & order. NVCO had also submitted a representation to the deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, on July 11, 2015 at his official residence to completely stop illegal collection of cash at the check-gates and in the highways.
NVCO had met and submitted a similar representation the State Chief Secretary and the State Governor, which ironically had not received any respond from the concerned authorities.
NVCO also met the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, on July 30, 2015, and had submitted a representation in regard to illegal collection of cash in the main check-gates and in the town.
Earlier, ACAUT Nagaland had exposed the illegal collection of cash covering Pfutsero to Dimapur via Phesama Police check-gates, Bye-pass (Kohima), etc showing huge amount of collection of cash including police, local public organisations etc.
Taking serious note of the above stated circumstances, NVCO has conveyed strong message to the State government and the district administrations to have mercy on common people and to react or take action to save the people in the state.
