Members of the Nagaland University Teachers’ Association Lumami (NUTA-L) observing ‘Black Day’ on August 22.

Dimapur, August 22 (EMN): In expressing solidarity with the All India Federation of University and College Teacher (AIFACTU) and the Federation of Central University Teachers’ Association (FEDCUTA), Nagaland University Teachers’ Association Lumami (NUTA-L) and Nagaland University Teachers’ Association, Kohima Campus (NUTAK), Meriema, observed ‘Black Day’ on August 22 by wearing black badges as a protest against non-declaration of 7th UGC Pay Review Committee Report and Government agenda for privatisation of higher education.
A joint press release issued by NUTA-L president Dr. Lanusashi Longkumer and the general secretary Dr. Athungo Ovung stated that the teaching communities in the higher education across the country are perturbed as the government has not made public even after the UGC Chouhan Pay Review Committee submitted its recommendation to the MHRD in the month of February 2017 for discussions by stakeholders.
It further stated that the central government agenda to curtail the Central assistance for the implementation of 7th ROP, UGC scale to the states will seriously go against the teachers in higher education.
Meanwhile, NUTAK president Prof. N Das and the general secretary Dr. Tiatoshi Jamir stated all academic activities in the campus remained suspended for the day.
