Kohima, July 26 (EMN): Observing poor performances both input and output of government schools in the State, the new team of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has pledged to put all efforts particularly on the human resource departments like the School Education, Higher Education, Technical Education and Nagaland University.
Highlighting some agendas that were taken up at a press conference held in its office this afternoon, NSF president, Kesosül Christopher Ltu, said the organisation will be emphasising on streamlining and rationalisation of teachers in government schools and their sincerity.
Noting with regret that though the best teachers were selected through exams and deployed in government schools, the performances was left much to be desired as compared to other schools. The Federation along with its federating units and the village students’ union will emphasise to even go for physical verification to schools whereby non performing schools and teachers will be strictly taken into account, he stated.
Citing instances of delay in distribution of textbooks and uniforms and non-issue of midday meals in most of the schools, Ltu said NSF along with its units will be monitoring if the schools are truly availing and implementing the centrally sponsored schemes meant for the welfare of the students.
He cautioned that the matter will be taken up with the competent authority if any schools are found violating the same.
Citing another major concern in the marking system in the Higher Education Department, Ltu pointed out that though the students are performing at par with students from other states, students found it difficult to pursue higher studies because of the less percentage due to the marking system.
Reiterating its stand on the allocation of seats only to a Naga for any technical education, NSF asserted that ‘the case of adoption also does not arise’ saying the stand of NSF is very clear ‘Nagas by blood and not by adoption’ which has to be implemented.
The officials also informed that NSF will be monitoring the performance of polytechnics and raise its concern whether the NIT located at Chumukedima is performing at par with other IT institutions. Ltu said it will be taking up the issue with the government as well.
Meanwhile comparing between Nagaland University and Tezpur University, which was established in the same year 1994, Ltu noted that there has been a wide gap in the infrastructures, intake of students and facilities that students are availing in NU.
He said that NU, the lone central university in the State, is not giving what is being deserved by the students. While appreciating NU for timely declaration of result this year, it affirmed that NSF along with All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) will be monitoring the same as there have been delays and errors in the results in the past years.
In this regard a three member Education Committee has been set up who will be looking after the entire affairs of the education sector for the welfare of the students with Müphato Nyuthe as the convenor, He can be contacted on phone nos. 8974172206 and 8794546247.
NSF has also formed a three member Public Grievance Cell with Boketo Kihoto as the convenor (8729993559/ 7005403835), who will endeavour to address any current issues.
Noting that acquiring of ILP has become easy and casual in the State, NSF noted with regret that the rules laid down under Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act has not been followed even by the district administration or by the State government.
Another major concern, Ltu pointed out was the influx of illegal immigrants which must be dealt with a different yardstick by penalising defaulters of ILP and illegal immigrants. The State government, he said, should take cognizance of applying different yardsticks for the defaulters of ILP and illegal immigrants, which are totally different in nature.
NSF, he informed, will be forming a committee of Inner Line Regulation which will monitor and come with a blueprint as to how the procedures of ILP are being obtain in the State. He added that NSF will also be checking on how the police are handling the issue at the check gates particularly at the entry points.
He reiterated that NSF will take up the issue of backdoor appointments in line with the June 2, 2016, government order and will monitor the other departments as well in the same yardstick.
Another major concern that the NSF emphasised was the poor road condition – a major problem faced by the people of the State. Ltu said, NSF will be constantly taking up the issue with the department and government.
While understanding the natural calamities and incessant rains that have resulted in the poor road conditions, he pointed out that there are certain areas where necessary measures should be taken up as and when the weather or time is feasible.
Lastly, being political in nature since its inception, Ltu asserted that in line the political aspiration of the Nagas, NSF has clearly reiterated its stand to the interlocutor Ravi on July 6, 2017, for a logical solution in line with the honourable and acceptable solution to the aspiration and rights of the Nagas.
He also informed that during its discussion with the interlocutor, NSF has impressed upon the Government of India and NSCN to expedite the process whereby 20 years have passed since the ceasefire agreement and 2 years since the framework agreement was inked.
