Dimapur, Jan. 10: The NSCN (IM) has condemned what it claimed as “unwarranted raids and physical and mental torture” meted out to one of its senior members identified as ‘tatar’ Namchum, at Noksen village under Tuensang district by the 5 Assam Rifles based at Zunheboto on January 5 last.

“The Assam Rifles entered the house of Mr Namchu Tatar at 12 midnight and started questioning to which group he belongs to. Even after identifying himself as a member of Tatar of the NSCN/GPRN, then two Meitei dialects speaking jawans abused him stating that you NSCN —IM are the causes of all troubles in Manipur.
“After raiding his house where they could not found anything objectionable things, then they took him to undisclosed location where he was brutally tortured black and blue. The NSCN has taken extreme note of the communal colours within the Assam Rifles and the Meitei in particular of the Assam Rifles are venting out their personal vendetta against the innocent Nagas. Where was the need and the reason to insult and torture when nothing wrong was found in his possession which is beyond doubt?” read an NSCN (IM) statement on Tuesday.

It stated that the Commanding Officer of the 5 Assam Rifles based at Zunheboto should initiate stringent steps against the erring Manipuri jawans and “if such acts are repeated in future the NSCN will be compelled to target the concern battalion.”
