North East Zone Sports Climbing competition underway in Manipur

IMPHAL, OCTOBER 22: In a move to encourage climbing sport in Manipur, the 22nd North East Zone Sports Climbing Competition began in Imphal on Friday last with participation of around 121 climbers from all the north-eastern states.
The competition has been organized by Manipur Mountaineering and Tracking Associations (MMTA) at its Minuthong complex in Imphal. Host Manipur (30) has the largest number of climbers while Meghalaya (7) has the least number of competitors. Around 20 climbers from Assam are also participating in the speed climbing competition which is scheduled to conclude on October 25.Troops of 9 Sector Assam Rifles here also presented sports equipment to MMTA for the ongoing competition. The inclusion of ‘Sports Climbing’ event in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games has given hope for young climbers of the State to showcase their talent at international level. The Assam Rifles is co-sponsoring the event with MMTA and has assured of all possible help for the budding sports climbers of the region.
