Dimapur, April 14 (EMN):
During their attempt to combat the recent outbreak of suspected Haemorrhagic septicaemia (a bacterial disease thataffects animals) in Medziphema area, the state’s department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services had to direct its employees to arrange their own transportation as “the state election department did not consider the appeal made by the department for exemption of emergency duty vehicle from election duty.”

The information was contained in a press release issued by the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services on Sunday. It stated that the department’s representatives had on April 12 visited the affected areas “where the recent outbreak of suspected Haemorrhagic septicaemia took place and a good number of buffaloes are dying.”

According to the department, said area is prone to such outbreaks and the officials had reminded the villagers to cooperate with the department to vaccinate their animals timely in order to prevent such outbreaks.

“That in the event of an outbreak, it can be contained more effectively and reduce the economic loss if the villagers report on time to the nearest veterinary health centre. In the recent case, the villagers also admitted in the meeting that, they have not reported the matter to the department initially,” it stated.

It informed that the department was prepared to extend services in case of any such outbreak of diseases in animals. It has also requested everyone to report cases to the nearest veterinary health centre for timely intervention by the department’s qualified staff “rather than making publicity through other means, to control the outbreak of animal diseases.”
