Kohima, March 29 (EMN): Chief minister and NPF president, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu said the days of Congress party were over throughout the country and at present, there was no alternative to NPF in Nagaland.
He said this while addressing the NPF Kohima division leaders’ convention as the guest speaker held at IG Stadium this morning.
On the new political development in which former member of Parliament, Chingwang Konyak is expected to announce the formation of a political party on April 3 next, he said in a democratic set up there can several political parties. He however asked the members not to be alarmed or swayed away by this. Stating that Nagas have a very wrong concept of politics, and blindly supporting candidates, Dr Liezietsu advised the party workers to be matured and wise enough to consider which political ideologies and principles were best for the people, and which ones were detrimental.
While stating that politics in Nagaland has brought divisions and hatred among villages and clans, he advised the party workers to be very clear about the party values and principles. Dr Liezietsu also maintained that many forces have tried to break down the NPF-led DAN government which, according to him, led to the resignation of TR Zeliang “for no fault of his.”
The party workers were also advised to follow the Constitution of the party, and teach the same to all its members. He said that apart from the developmental works, NPF party would sincerely work towards bringing peace and unity among the people and also towards creating opportunities and avenues for the people to earn their livelihood.
On the Naga political issue, Dr Liezietsu said while NPF party stands for early solution to the Naga political issue which is honorable and acceptable to all sections of the society, it also stands for ‘inclusiveness of all groups and sections of the Naga society while arriving at a final solution.’
Also speaking on the occasion, former chief minister and advisor of Finance, TR Zeliang said his 2 years and 9 months period as chief minister was one of turbulence, and a rough journey.
Recalling the past incidences, Zeliang said that though ‘many outside forces tried to divide and break the party by threatening and intimidating NPF has come out victoriously with smooth transition of power’ through the cooperation and support of all party workers.
He expressed confidence that NPF party shall return to power with a thumping majority under the eadership of Dr Shurhozelie in the next elections.
He also mentioned some of the achievements made by the NPF led DAN government during his tenure as the chief minister. He informed that Rs 28 crore as first instalment has been sanctioned last week for developmental works of North East Christian University (NECU) at Medziphema village
Also while stating that the ULB episode in the month of January and February should be the last for the Nagas, Zeliang said it was time to ‘divert the minds of the youth from destructive to constructive.’
