NNC clarifies allegation made by NSCN (IM)

Dimapur, Feb. 11 (EMN): The Naga National Council (NNC) on Monday clarified the allegation made by Chakhesang region secretary/CAO of NSCN (IM) Trokho Nuh, stating that it was the Chakhesang Regional Council NNC that summoned the general meeting for a meeting for the region and not Adinno Phizo as claimed by Nuh.

Velicho Rhakho, president of Chakhesang Regional Council, NNC said in a statement that “every region has the autonomy to exercise its own regional affairs which does not affect the nation” and that the NNC has no intention to interfere in the peace talk between the of NSCN (IM) and the government of India (GoI).

“The present peace talks of NSCN (IM) with GoI is only demanding something from GoI and it is up to GoI whether to grant their demand or not. The stand of NNC was cleared that the NNC is not demanding anything from the Government of India but to leave Nagaland. The NNC is appealing to the UNO to recognise their sovereign right,” read the statement.

With regard to the charge that the outfit had already accepted the Indian constitution through the infamous Shillong Accord of 1975, Rhakho said that there is no “valid record” stating that the NNC had accepted the Indian constitution.

Nuh had earlier issued a statement ahead of the meeting convened by the NNC on Feb. 14 in Chokriba village under Phek district, directing the public to abstain from attending it. The Chakhesang region secretary/CAO of NSCN (IM) had alleged that NNC had already accepted the Indian constitution through their ‘infamous’ Shillong Accord and that the group turned a deaf ears to the sincere plea of Naga civil societies to leave their so called ‘Peace camp,’ which has prolonged the suffering of the people.
