NNC cadre, ‘arms peddler’ in AR net

An activist of the underground group NNC (NA) and a person the security forces have called ‘arms peddler’ have been apprehended by Assam Rifles personnel. The security force issued a press release on Monday, February 8 informing about the events.
On February 3, the Assam Rifles establishment stated, troopers responded to reports about the presence of armed underground cadres in general area of Naga Gaon Colony in Dimapur. A search operation was launched by the troops of the 32nd Assam Rifles along with police representatives, the security force said.
“At around 0500h, the troops searched the house and found illegal/unauthorized arm and ammunition and large number of incrimenting (sic) documents. One pt 22 pistol with magazine and eleven live rounds were recovered,” the press release stated.
“On spot questioning, the individual admitted to have been associated with NNC (NA) as a deputy kilonser. The name of the apprehendee is Mr Kivika Awomi, r/o Zutovi, Dimapur (Nagaland). Apprehendee alongwith recovered items was handed over to Sub Urban Police Station,” the note added.
In another case, the Assam Rifles informed to have apprehended an alleged ‘arms peddler’ from Nagaland gate areas on February 5. Based on specific information about the presence of an arms peddler in general area near Nagaland Gate, a separate press release on Monday stated, troops of the 32nd Assam Rifles under the aegis of headquarters 6-sector Assam rifles, deployed a surveillance team in the area to track an individual.
The security force intercepted him at Nui Colony near Nagaland gate, the Assam Rifles stated. “On thorough search of the individual, he was found to be in possession of illegal / unauthorized arm and was consequently apprehended. The name of the individual is Mr Babul Hussain, s/o Late Abdul Jabbar, r/o New Lahurijan, Karbi Anglong, Assam,” the press release stated.
“One pistol .32 (country made) along with two magazines were recovered from the individual.
The apprehended individual along with the recovered weapon was handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur for further investigation,” it added.
