Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): Local nongovernmental organisation Childline of Dimapur conducted a health programme for adolescent girls studying in class-6 and 7 of Sacred Heart School in Toulazouma village under Dimapur on Nov. 10. The event was part of the ongoing annual countrywide Childline Se Dosti campaign, since Nov. 8, updates on Thursday said.
The main objective of the programme was to motivate and educate the girls to improve their health, take disease-prevention measures and reduce risky behaviour, the updates stated. A session focusing on health and hygiene particularly on menstruation cycle, its symptoms and management was moderated by Aligha V Yeptho, a counsellor at Childline.
Yeptho advised the students to consult with adult females in the family or adult female relatives if they face any irregularity or problems in their menstruation cycle. Sanitary pads were distributed to the students, it was informed. Lozua Kape, centre coordinator of the group, demonstrated how to properly use the sanitary pads. Kape cautioned that adolescent girls are vulnerable and biologically more susceptible to reproductive infections. She advised them to maintain their health and take care of their hygiene regularly.
The students were also educated about the toll free helpline number 1098 of Childline which is 24×7. They were requested to call the organisation’s helpline or to inform adults if they witness, or are aware of, children being abused, abandoned, missing; loitering around or in distress situations.
