NFSA to benefit 28,887 households in Kohima

Dimapur, July 29: As the State government is set to implement the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the State, a total 28,887 households in Kohima district would be benefited under the scheme. This was announced by the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Rovilatuo Mor, during a meeting of panchayat chairmen in the DC’s conference hall on July 29.
In order to avail the benefits of food security act, the DC informed that the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families should mandatorily produce Aadhaar card for family heads and rest of the family members. He also said that Aadhar is mandatory for checking of leakages and improve transparency in the public distribution system.The Deputy Commissioner also informed that the legal entitlement to 5 kg of subsidised rice per person per month at Rs 3/kg and wheat at Rs 3/kg per person per month would be initiated in the district. While for registration and availing of ration card, the beneficiaries need to pay Rs 20 per card to the village council chairman or panchayat chairman. While for the sub division of Tseminyu and Chiephobozuo centres , the beneficiaries were informed to register to the Inspector or Sub-Inspector of Food and Civil Supplies.
Assistant Director of Food and Civil Supplies, Dr. Kapenlo Thong, also informed that the benefits are eligible for all BPL families, whose family income should be below Rs 1,50,000 annually with the family monthly income of Rs 12,000 per month. He also said the identification of beneficiaries would be based on self-declaration of family income.
He further informed that the food distribution would start from July 30. The meeting was followed with the distribution of ration cards to the concerned ward chairmen.
