India objects to China renaming six places in Arunachal 

New Delhi, April 20 (PTI): Taking offence to China renaming six places in Arunachal Pradesh, India on Thursday said inventing names of states of a neighbour does not make illegal occupation legal. Reacting to the issue, Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs Gopal Baglay said Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India. China yesterday had announced that it has “standardised” official names for six places in the Northeastern state and termed the provocative move as a “legitimate action”.

Give details of appeal process in Jadhav case: India to Pak 

New Delhi, April 20 (PTI): India has officially sought from Pakistan details of the trial proceedings against Kulbhushan Jadhav as well as the appeal process in the case, the External Affairs Ministry said on Thursday. Ministry Spokesperson Gopal Baglay said India has asked for consular access to Jadhav for the 15th time. Pakistan is yet to heed to India’s request for consular access to Jadhav who has been given death penalty by a Pakistani military court on charges of spying. India awaits formal response from Pakistan to its two demands – consular access and details of the trial proceedings against Jadhav, said Baglay.

UP minister insults ‘divyang’ staff, video goes viral

Lucknow, April 20 (PTI): Senior Uttar Pradesh Minister Satyadev Pachauri purportedly insulted a physically disabled employee during a surprise inspection, a video of which has gone viral on the social media. This incident comes days after the Yogi Adityanath government renamed the ‘Viklang Kalyan Vibhag’ (Handicap Welfare Department) as ‘Divyang Jan Shasaktikaran Vibhag’ (Divyang Empowerment Department). “You have kept a loola-langda on contract. What will he do? This is the reason behind lack of hygiene here,” Pachauri was purportedly heard saying in the video clip which went viral on the social media.

3 terror suspects planning major attack nabbed

Mumbai/Lucknow, April 20 (PTI): Three suspected terrorists plotting a major strike were on Thursday arrested and some persons detained in an operation carried out jointly by police teams of five states. Raids were carried out this morning in Mumbra (Maharashtra), Jalandhar (Punjab), Narkatiaganj (Bihar), Bijnor and Muzaffarnagar (both in Uttar Pradesh) in a joint operation of the Delhi special cell, the ATS of UP and Maharashtra, and the police of Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Bihar, an official said. While the UP ATS spokesperson said that six more people have been detained by the police team for questioning, Maharashtra ATS sources said nearly 12 were taken into custody.

Kejriwal promises to clean up Delhi in one year

New Delhi, April 20 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday pledged to clean up the national capital in just one year if his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won Sunday’s municipal election. After asking rhetorically “Are you happy with Delhi’s cleanliness?” Kejriwal said that people in Delhi were greatly upset by piles of garbage, choked drains and mosquito menace. He said he was sick and tired of telling the BJP-run civic body to clean up Delhi despite his government giving it crores of rupees.

Goods train derails in Haryana, bogies fall in river 

Chandigarh, April 20 (IANS): At least 15 wagons of a goods train, loaded with coal, derailed on Thursday in Haryana’s Ambala district and fell into the bed of Markanda river, railway officials said. The driver and the guard of the train were said to be safe. The cause of the accident, which took place while the train was crossing the bridge, is not known.

One killed after Class XII student runs over car

New Delhi, April 20 (PTI): One person was killed while three others were injured when they were hit by a car allegedly being driven by a Class XII student in north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate area this morning. The accident happened at 5.45 AM. The car had three occupants- all Class XII students – of a top Delhi school, said a senior police officer. While two of the occupants managed to flee, the driver was apprehended by police.

I-T recovers Rs 10 cr cash, gold 

New Delhi, April 20 (PTI): The Income Tax department on Thursday recovered over Rs 10 crore cash and about ten kgs of gold after it conducted searches on the premises of a senior Uttar Pradesh bureaucrat. The tax sleuths also raided at least four premises of a former OSD of Noida Authority in Noida near here as part of its black money crackdown against government servants, a senior official said.

Man held for hoax e-mail about aircraft hijack threat 

Hyderabad, April 20 (PTI): Police on Thursday arrested a person from here for allegedly sending a hoax e-mail to Mumbai police about a possible aircraft hijack attempt. On April 16, the security at international airports in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai was put on maximum alert after the police forces of Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu and the CISF were informed about a possible aircraft hijack attempt.

Poll code violation: Charge sheet filed against UP minister 

Muzaffarnagar, April 20 (PTI): A charge sheet was on Thursday filed against Uttar Pradesh minister Suresh Rana and nine others in a local court for violating the Model Code of Conduct during the assembly elections. Charges related to making “statements conducing to public mischief and waging war against any Asiatic Power in alliance with the Government of India” have been slapped on Rana, who is also an accused in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case.

Cong slams Uttarakhand CM for not visiting bus mishap site 

Dehradun, April 20 (PTI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Thursday drew flak from the opposition Congress for not visiting the bus mishap site, where nearly 45 people mostly from the state were killed on Wednesday, despite being only a “few kilometres away”. Stating that the compensation of Rs one lakh for the families of the victims announced by the state government was not enough, Joshi demanded that it be raised to at least Rs five lakh.
