New twist to trader assault case

In a new twist to the July 1 incident at Murgipatti, in which a 53-year-old Naga businessman was allegedly assaulted by a group of vegetable traders, it has now emerged that a counter police complaint against the “victim” has been lodged.
According to the counter complaint, it was the “victim” who had first assaulted one of the members of the group of traders that night. Reports suggested that the person who was first assaulted by the “victim” is also a Naga.
It might be noted that the Dimapur police has already taken two traders into custody basing on the FIR lodged by the “victim.”
Meanwhile, on Friday evening, at around 6 to 6.30 pm a group of unidentified youths destroyed some vegetables being sold at wholesale outlets in Murgipatti. Sources said that, a group of 6-7 Naga youths came in one vehicle and left after destroying the goods.
Meanwhile, Dimapur Police had received a complaint from Kevise Sogotsu, President of Nagaland Timber Trader’s Union that the treasurer of their Union, Sanyi Dukru was assaulted on July 1 at around 1:30 p.m at Murgipatti.


The complaint alleged that the assault was carried out by shopkeepers and staffs and during the incident, three mobile phones, a cheque and other documents belonging to the victim were reportedly missing.
In this regard a case was registered at East Police station and investigation initiated. The police have also arrested the proprietor and a staff for investigation.,
Connected to the incident, the Dimapur police is also received a counter complaint that on July 1, Sanyi Dukru had come to Murgipatti area and enquired the rate of cabbage bought from Tadubi and started physically assaulting one Pau Poumai and thereafter assaulted a staff of a shop by hitting the face with a calculator and throttring his neck.
In this connection a case has been registered in East Police station for further investigation, a press note issued by Addl. Dy .Commissioner of Police/PRO Dimapur said.
Police said both the cases are underway. Sanyi Dukru was found in an injured condition by the mobile patrol unit at Blue Hill area on July 1 and was taken for medical assistance. He is still admitted in the hospital.
Meanwhile, Dimapur police appealed to sections of the society not to communalise the incident and allow law to take its own course. It assured fair and impartial investigation to both sides of the allegations and will ensure that the guilty are brought to trial.
