Dimapur, July 23 (EMN): 40 year-old, New Market FC, popularly known as New Market XI, is one of the oldest Foot-balling Clubs in Kohima. It is a community-based club that started playing in 1977, participating in Sir CR Pawsey trophy. Thereafter New Market XI started participating in every major tournament in the state, mainly Kohima.
New Market Youth Organisation (NMYO), formed in 1973 is the backbone of New Market FC.
Some of the tournaments participated by the club on regular basis are: Senior Soccer League (1980s), Royal Gold Cup (1988-2013), NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy (1990’s till date and Classic Cup (1995 till date).
The Club is one of the most successful in Classic Cup-crown champion twice (1995 and 1998).
The Club is also credited for winning the Senior Soccer League in 1994, the last time Senior Soccer league took place. It also won the 2006’s Sekrenyu Football league in Kohima and the 1998 Peace Cup organised by Assam Rifles based in Nagaland.
The Club also participated in the Invitation Cup in Dimapur securing runner-up in 1992.
Apart from these ,New Market Xl have even went to Meluri (Phek) to give coaching to the young talents and played exhibition match with them for two year ,under the aegis of Dove Club Meluri.
New Market FC will be showcasing the young talent of Kohima in the age group of 18-23 years in the upcoming Kohima Football League.
The New Market FC will conquer the field with the motto- “Sauviter in Modo, Fortiter in re, Uno Animo” which means “Gentle in manner, Faithful in deed with one mind”.
