‘New and Renewable Energy’ for a better environment to counter global warming

The Department of New and Renewable Energy (DNRE) which was introduced under the Government of Nagaland in view of Global warming started functioning from 2010 where till date so many developments and achievements have taken place in the state under the leadership of T.S Angami, Director, DNRE. The “MOBILE EXHIBITION VAN” displayed various models of Renewable Devices such as Solar TV, Biogas Plant, Solar Geyser, Solar Dryer, Solar Pump, Solar Battery Charger, Solar Street Light, Solar Cooker, Smokeless Chulah, Biogas Stove, Windmill and Solar Home Lighting System .The devices were on display and demonstrated at the Unity Christian Higher Secondary School (UCHSS), Diphupar and the Local ground for two consecutive days. The exhibition proved to be a destination point for students from many schools.
A significant achievement for the DNRE is the installation of 842 kilowatt solar power plants at all government offices in the state capital. The Department has also installed 4200 Solar Street Lights in 139 villages. In Peren District, the DNRE by providing solar home lightings and solar street lights has electrified eight villages that were living without electricity.
The department also installed solar energy plates of different capacities in 47 directorate buildings. Along with other activities the DNRE has also distributed solar lantern to school students.
Inaho P Awomi, Assistant Director, New & Renewable Energy, Nagaland said a capacity of 1,58,900 litres per day through solar water heater is installed n Nagaland.
He added that the objective of the exhibition was to ,“to educate the youths and public by creating awareness of the use of New and Renewable Energy as global warming is on the rise and dang is on the rise.” He also stated that the DNRE has covered all the districts of Nagaland in every small ways.
So many projects and plans are going on amongst which the Micro Hydro Project of 1MW at Tzutsung River under Mokokchung District and Hydro Project of 300KW at Noiroi Peren will be completed by March, 2014.
The only solar plant that is made locally in the state is the ‘Biogas Plant’ while the rest are from different companies from all over India. This biogas plant is produced from the combination of kitchen waste, cow dung, human excreta and other forms of animals waste.
The Department is also in search of investors who are willing to undertake a project of around 10 MW Solar Power Plant at Ganesh Nagar, Dimapur in order to improve the electricity crisis to some extend in Dimapur.
Inaho P Awomi also acknowledged that the department is trying their best to eradicate power crisis in Nagaland and that they are planning to improvise the energy crisis in every small ways.
The department announced that every individual who wants to opt for Solar Lantern, Solar Home Light, Solar Water Heater and Solar Power Pact can submit the application form addressed to the DNRE.
The Department also informed that villages that require Solar Street Light can send their application form to the DNRE and that the family type Biogas Plant will also be given to individuals provided three cows should be reared in the family.
