Dimapur, April 17 (EMN): The 8 Western Angami Assembly Constituency unit of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has reiterated demand for justice against officials involved in electoral mal-practices by awarding exemplary punishment as a deterrent so that such incident do not occur again in future.
The unit press release issued by its president, Vitsalhou Kesiezie, has appreciated the steps taken by the Election Commission of India and the state government for the disciplinary actions taken on the ADC and the RO of Tening assembly constituency by placing their services under ‘Suspension’ for their alleged biased actions in favour of the then ruling party NPF candidate .
It added that under Peren assembly constituency, people have yet to find justice in favour of the NDPP candidate pertaining to the gross injustice meted out against him by ill motivated and unscrupulous officials on duty.
It went on to state that under the 9-Kohima Town assembly constituency, the state witnessed another unheard-of electoral mal practice in which many duplicate voter identity slips just identical to the original ones were detected and seized from the possession of rival NPF party workers which ultimately compelled the authorities to conduct re-poll.
It stated that under the 8- Western Angami assembly constituency, the issue came to light after detection of atleast 32 cases of forged postal ballots that were casted in the name of some NDPP party office bearers, students, farmers and even deceased persons. It claimed that all those living persons against whom forged postal ballots were casted were denied from exercising their franchise. It compelled the aggrieved voters to file FIR with the North Police Station Kohima, while the NDPP candidate as well the party submitted representations to the DC and the RO Kohima and also to the Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland with copy endorsed to the Election Commission of India for redressal of their grievances.
Stating that chief electoral officer and the deputy commissioner were fully aware, the unit stated that it is keenly observing on the steps being taken or will be taken by the concerned authorities regarding the issue raised by them.
The unit has urged the competent authority to address the issue and deliver justice in full measure without further delay failing which it cautioned that the whole responsibility would be borne by on the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, under whose office all these corrupt practices took place.
