Dimapur, April 19 (EMN): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has granted recognition to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) as a ‘state party in the state of Nagaland’.

A press release from the NDPP on Thursday informed that the ECI had issued a notification containing the information on April 17.

“…on the basis of review of poll performance of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) at the general elections to the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland, 2018, it is seen that the NDPP has fulfilled the conditions laid down in Para 6A (i), (iii) and (v) of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968, for recognition of the NDPP as a State Party in the State of Nagaland and accordingly the ECI has granted recognition of the NDPP as a State Party in the State of Nagaland under the provisions of the Elections Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968,” the statement read.

The ECI has further allotted ‘globe’ as the NDPP’s reserved symbol in the state of Nagaland, it informed.  The party was formed on May 17, 2017 and declared a registered party by the ECI on October 13, 2017.

“With the popular support and mandate of the people, the NDPP has been given the opportunity to be part of the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government in Nagaland. Subsequently, as stated above, the NDPP is now a registered and recognized political party in Nagaland with effect from 17th April, 2018 as per the communiqué of the ECI,” the NDPP press release stated.

It expressed sincere appreciation to the ECI ‘for passing all necessary orders in a prompt manner as laid down in the rules’.  The party has also stated that its achievements and success were due to the collective effort of the party members and the popular support of the people.

“We extend our deepest appreciation to the citizens of the State and the electorate for reposing faith and confidence upon the leadership of the Party and for supporting the ideologies and principles of the NDPP…the actual credit for the Party’s achievements belong to the people, as the people and the electorate are the real stakeholders and the genuine high command of the NDPP.”

It was confident that the people would not be influenced by ‘propaganda and spread of lies by others as the party has utmost respect for the wisdom of the Naga people’. The party will continue to work for the uplift of all sections of the people based on truth and facts, it asserted.
