National Campaign on Medicinal Plants launched in Manipur
IMPHAL, OCTOBER 25: Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has launched National Campaign on Medicinal Plants by inaugurating daylong state-level buyers-sellers’ meet on medicinal plants at the Indian Medical Association (IMA) house in Imphal on Tuesday.
Speaking during the formal function, which was organised by the Manipur State Medicinal Plants Board, directorate of AYUSH, the governor Dr Heptulla said that researchers have identified 122 compounds used in modern medicine. They were derived from traditional plants sources while 80% of these have had a traditional use identical or related to the current use of the active elements of the plant in 2001, she said.
The Manipur State Medicinal Plants Board has been functioning here as an autonomous body since September, 2005, to promote and propagate medicinal plants in Manipur and also to attain leadership for the state in this sector.
Manipur’s minister for Social Welfare & Co-operation AK Mirabai Devi, the commissioner for Horticulture & Soil Conservation, TA & Hills Thaithuilung Pamei, and the chief conservator of Forest Th. Mohendra Pratap Singh also attended the programme.
