Modi to launch UDAN air connectivity scheme on April 27

New Delhi, April 26 (IANS): The central government on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the air regional connectivity scheme — UDAN — on April 27, Thursday, in Shimla. According to the ministry, it is committed to providing air connectivity to currently underserved and unserved airports through the UDAN air connectivity scheme. Prime Minister Modi will launch the scheme at 11.15 a.m. in Shimla and simultaneously flag off the inaugural UDAN flights on Kadapa-Hyderabad and Nanded-Hyderabad sectors through video conferencing. The airline companies chosen are Airline Allied Services (Alliance Air), SpiceJet, Turbo Megha Airways, Air Deccan and Air Odisha.

3 dead, 13 missing in Hooghly river as jetty collapses

Kolkata, April 26 (IANS): At least three persons died and 13 others were still missing after a temporary jetty on the Hooghly river collapsed in Hooghly district of west Bengal on Wednesday, the police said. According to the police, passengers waiting to cross over to North 24 Parganas district’s Shyamnagar on the other side fell into the river as the wooden structure collapsed. The locals present at the riverbank managed to save some of the passengers from drowning before the disaster management team and rescue team of the state police rushed to the spot.

2 killed as trainer aircraft crashes into river

Balaghat (MP)/Gondia (Maharashtra), April 26 (IANS): A trainer aircraft crashed on the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border on Wednesday, killing the pilot and a trainee, after the craft got entangled in wires, officials said. The trainer aircraft, while flying over the river, got entangled in wires spread across it to measure the water level, the official said. The accident happened near Lavni village, along the border of the two states, but falls within Maharashtra.

Kerala govt decides to remove red beacon lights ??

Thiruvananthapuram, April 26 (PTI): In tune with the Centre’s decision, the CPI-M led LDF government in Kerala on Wednesday decided to do away with red becon lights from the official vehicles of Chief Minister, Ministers and others in the state.It was also resolved to display registration number plates of the vehicles used by state Ministers instead of the existing practice of giving numbers such as 1,2,3 etc. However, the emergency vehicles such as ambulance and fire force and police are allowed to use becon lights, the release said.

Pb govt orders crackdown on pvt medical, dental colleges

Chandigarh, April 26 (PTI): Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday ordered a crackdown on private medical and dental colleges “engaged in the business of making money”, warning them to either perform or close shop. The order was issued at a review meeting of the Departments of Medical Education and Research, and Health and Family Welfare here to discuss the problems faced by medical institutions in the state. Amid complaints of lack of funds by government medical colleges, the chief minister asked Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh to ensure that Central funds reserved for medical education were made available to these colleges for infrastructure upgradation.
