Nagas have perquisite skill for Wushu, says Gabriel Khamo

The five-day National Wushu Coaching course for Indian coaches held under the aegis of Wushu Association of India in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI) concluded at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here on Friday.

Two Nagaland coaches-Gabriel Khamo and Manoj Dangiari were among the 31 Wushu coaches from from the Northeast states who participated in the coaching course.

Speaking to this Correspondent, Nagaland Coach Gabriel said, “We’ve learn many new things from the coaching here. Now we can apply such new techniques and other practices to our trainees when we went back to our state.” Manoj Dangiari and Jaco Basumatary, a coach from Assam’s Udalguri area also shared a similar sentiment.

Informing about the potential of Wushu in Nagaland –Gabriel Khamo, the only NIS coach in Wushu said, “Our players could excel in Wushu not only in the national but in the international as we the Naga have the perquisite skill for the game if the necessary infrastructure and opportunities are provided.”

Nagaland Wushu players have won many medals during the National Games held in Guwahati. There are around 20 national wushu players out of the state’s total 200 plus players informed Khamo.

Five Chinese wushu experts – Professor Zeng Fang of Chinese Wushu Association, Li Qiaoling of Beijing Sports University, Zhang Xiao Ou of Chengdu Institute of Physical Education, Qin Rancong of Guangxi Wushu teamnd Liang Yadong of Wahan Institute of Physical Education imparted the intensive coaching on news techniques and other practices of the game to around 120 national wushu coaches representing 33 states and services across the country
