Dimapur, Dec. 17 : Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio on Sunday said that though Nagas were highly talented and second to none in their business acumen, ‘fear psychosis existing in the minds if the people’ was preventing them from realising their full potential.
Rio made this statement while speaking as the chief guest at the closing function of the 5th edition of the week-long Dimapur Night Carnival at Supermarket Complex, according to a statement from the MP’s press secretary.
Rio lauded the Dimapur district administration, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Business Association of Nagas (BAN), East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA), entrepreneurs, donors and all well-wishers for the success of the carnival, it stated.
He recalled that the carnival was first organised in 2013 coinciding with the 50 years’ celebration of Nagaland’s Statehood while reminding that Dimapur was the only commercial centre of the state. “It is up to us how to build this city. We need to provide peace and tranquillity. We need to ensure that there is no fear psychosis. Rule of law should prevail so that investors from outside can come here and do business,” he stated.
Rio shared that even as the entire Northeast region was rich in resources the people still remain poor ‘because we have not exploited our natural resources, business potential and talents’.
Touching upon the long standing Naga political issue, the MP said: “Our political issue remains unresolved for the last 7 to 8 decades. Nagas desire for settlement so that peace and development comes.” He expressed support to the Dec. 7, 2017 resolution among legislators, parliamentarians and ex-parliamentarians; as well as the Dec. 15, 2017 four-point resolution adopted in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for an early settlement of the Naga political issue before the next General Assembly Elections slated for February/March 2018.
Applauding the artistes for showcasing their various talents, the chief guest also appreciated the exhibition of indigenous-themed creations by Naga fashion designers and said: “This shows that we are second to none.”
Expressing his solidarity to the business community, the MP urged upon the people to maintain peace and tranquillity, love one another, and respect each other. “Let Dimapur grow as the commercial hub not only for Nagaland but also for the Northeastern region,” he added.
The Dimapur Night Carnival 2017 which was a seven day affair was jointly organised by district administration, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), Business Association of Nagaland (BAN) and East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) and is aimed to promote products of local small enterprises.
