Mokokchung, Jan. 16 (EMN): Minister Temjen Imna Along Longkumer on Wednesday demanded to implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state of Nagaland.

Speaking at a programme to mark the 6th Longpok Semchir Telongjem Mungdang at Mokokchung on Wednesday, Longkumer said: “As BJP president NRC should be implemented in Nagaland.”

When queried about the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Longkumer simply replied, “To safeguard the Naga people against any infringement we should strengthen the roots of our tradition and culture beliefs and practices.”

He also added that “safeguarding the traditional and cultural identity in the midst of any Bill is more important because it is the best way to be identified.”

Earlier, the minister graced the valedictory function of the 6th Longpok Semchir Telongjem Mungdang at Town Hall, here in m Mokokchung.

In his address, the minister asserted that in the current Naga context there is a tremendous clasH between the traditional and modern culture where the young generations are confused.SS

He also lamented that the rich cultural heritage left behind by our forefathers is rapidly disappearing and many youngsters do not know about their cultural background as “globalisation has captured the entire world.”

Longkumer explained that the current generations are connected with internet 24×7 where they “copy the alien cultures and become alienated with the culture that define them.”

“The clash of ideologies is occurring because the young generation learn knowledge from books but they forget their cultural heritage,” the minister asserted.

In this connection, he also cautioned that “we are going to be endangered species if we lost our cultural heritage and identity”, and called upon that delegates to let the young generation know and learn about where they come from and preserve the cultural heritage.

“If you want to march ahead, educate the youths; let them inherit the rich cultural heritage, teach them to fear God and work hard,” he challenged the delegates.

Meanwhile, Longrikaba also spoke at the function as the main speaker. Short speeches were said by Taka Masa Longkumer, senior advocate and ex MLA.

The new team of Longpok Semchir Telongjem will be led by K Nokmarenba as the president and Imkongnungba as the general secretary.
