Dimapur, August 23: For the first time in its history, Nagaland is getting ready to host the 4th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2016 that will be held from August 29 to September 3 at the Aries Sports Complex, Bamunpukhuri-1 in Dimapur.
Addressing a press conference press conference here today in Dimapur, Merang Jamir of Nagaland Rifle Association asserted that ‘shooting can be the best sport for Nagas, as it doesn’t require any exercise’ but only discipline and mental focus.
According to the organizers, the participants will be competing under the three categories i.e. senior, junior and youth. Participants from other states of the northeast region will be arriving at Dimapur on August 28. The organizers are expecting around 165 participants along with the officials from the five states of Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. Around 11 players from Nagaland are expected to compete in the competition during the pre-national championship. The organizers are hoping to boost the morale of the young shooting aspirants of Nagaland as well as the northeast region.
The tournament will host 80 matches, according to the organizers. The Aries Rifle and Pistol Shooting Academy was granted provisional affiliation by the National Rifle Association of India in 2014.
