KOHIMA, OCTOBER 21: Nagaland Police-Blue downed Barak FC 2-0 to take the third place of the 17th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy here at the Kohima local ground.
First half goals from Mülüvoto Rhakho and Tiasunep were enough for the police to emerge the winners against the defending champions who have had to suffer two consecutive defeats in a row earlier in the event. Barak lost to Forerunners FC of the 4th NAP of Thizama by a solitary goal on Thursday’s second semi-final.
Police midfielder Mülüvoto Rhakho drew the first blood in the 23rd minute, while their vice-captain Tiasunep netted the second goal in the 36th minute to make it 2-0.Injury-hit Barak FC played without some of their key players.
Barak almost minimised the margin through Apam’s header, but it narrowly missed the target as the ball went above the bar. Their defender Kakai also delivered a superb long range shot, but it also went likewise.
The police could have netted a third, had their substitute and veteran player Vizorü Peseyie capitalised another opportunity that came his way: as the goalkeeper of Barak FC came forward almost nearing the 18-yard circle, Vizorü bluntly kicked the ball, but far-wide.
Nagaland Police-Blue, who lost to Nagaland Police-Red in the first semi-final on Wednesday, will at least have something to rejoice with the victory today.
The minister for School education & SCERT Yitachu will be attending the closing ceremony, on Saturday, as the chief guest.
