Dimapur, Nov. 07 (EMN): Bendangtoshi Longkumer, husband of the editor of Nagaland Page, Tiamerenla Monalisa Changkija, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday in a hospital at New Delhi. He was 57.
Longkumer was serving as the managing director of Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation (NIDC) as well as the officer on special duty (OSD) to the department of Industries and Commerce. He is survived by wife and two daughters.
Even as the chief minister’s office, newspapers and journalist communities; and various organisations dispatched condolence messages to the local newspapers, the editor of Eastern Mirror – while mourning the passing of Longkumer – recalled him as ‘a public servant who went out of his way to do anything possible to improve the economic condition of the state’, in a condolence letter.
“As an officer tasked with vital economic development responsibilities, his personal capacity and vocational leadership pursued growth of the industrial sector and entrepreneurship. The government and the community have come to a vacuum in his departure. Our hearts go out to the grieving family with prayers that God will grant you solace and strength, and to the departed soul rest in peace,” it read.
Longkumer’s colleague at the NIDC described him as “a person who was ready to accept and take up any challenge but at the same time result-oriented and successful. He always thought out of the box and also preached the same”.
The mortal remains of Longkumer, according to sources close to the family, will arrive Dimapur on Wednesday.
CM Condoles
The Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Tuesday offered his condolences to the family of Longkumer who he stated was a fair, efficient and a charismatic bureaucrat.
” Late Bendang Longkumer, husband of Nagaland Page Editor, Proprietor and Publisher Smt. Tiamerenla Monalisa Changkija was a sincere, friendly and peace-loving man. Hailing from Yaongyimsen Village under Mokokchung and the son of Late Er. Tsukti Longkumer, he served the Government with dedication and his immense contribution as a fair, efficient and charismatic bureaucrat will ever be cherished, ” read the press statement from the chief minister.
The chief minister lamented that the passing away of Longkumer as a great loss.
“…during this difficult moment of pain and grief, I and my family members, extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.”
