Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (NPMCC) president, N Lucy on Saturday unfurled its flag at Congress Bhavan in Dimapur.

In a telephonic conversation with Eastern Mirror, the committee president said that the new flag was launched on Aug. 7 at New Delhi during the Congress convention.

“The committee didn’t have a flag for a long time and that this was the first flag given to us by the All India Congress Committee (AICC),” she disclosed, while adding that all the mahila Congress committees in India would use the same flag with the same logo all over the country. She also reminded that the Congress Mahila Cell was converted into All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) in 1984.

During the installation programme, Lucy expressed gratitude to the Congress president for launching the new logo in August 2018, which she stated gave a separate identity to the Congress women’s wing.

Khegholi Aomi, AICC member, while addressing the gathering admitted that women in the state are yet to achieve a desired level of empowerment in many fields. She called for all round encouragement from all sections of society to achieve true and practical women empowerment and not just empowerment on paper.

Appreciating the party loyalists present at the programme for their tireless and sincere commitment, Aomi exuded optimism that the Congress party will return to corridors of power in the 2019 Lok Sabha election and encouraged workers and members to remain steadfast.

Also addressing the programme, the NPCC President K Therie echoed the words of Aomi by stating that Nagaland faces major crisis because women candidates were not being elected so far. While encouraging women to strive hard to achieve true empowerment, he called for support from all sections of the society to support women’s representation.

Also stating that Nagas today are faced with fragmentation and indecision which is prolonging the suffering of the people, Therie urged for oneness and unity. Therie said it is not an impossible thing to build a united front to achieve the goals that elude us today and added that Congress is committed to finding a solution to ease the burden of the people.

Further adding that the future is very ‘dark’ for the new government, Therie exuded confidence that the Congress party is on the way to forming the government at the centre. He urged the Congress mahila leaders and workers to leave no stone unturned saying women have crucial and indispensible role to play.
