Dimapur, Dec. 11 (EMN): Clearly buoyed by the stunning results declared elsewhere on Tuesday, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) claimed that the “resounding victory of Indian National Congress” heralds the beginning of a new era under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NPCC–strangely— congratulated the state Congress units for ‘working hard against all odds to triumph over BJP.’

“We also congratulate and thank the people for outrightly rejecting BJP and its brand of communal politics that has polarised the country like never before. The road to 2019 is getting clearer and the supposed magic of Prime Minister Modi is on the wane as people are fed up of his jhumlas and slandering opponents that have lowered the dignity of the prime minister’s office. Moreover, the tall promises of BJP are sounding hollow day by day and the mood of the nation is gravitating towards teaching them a more befitting lesson in 2019.

“As far as Nagaland is concerned, when people from major states can reject BJPs communal brand of politics, Nagas should retrospect and join hands to strengthen Congress and defeat the communal BJP and its regional comfort parties like NDPP and NPF. BJP being part of ruling government in Nagaland with the help of these two regional parties during the past 16 years has made a mockery of Nagas in the eyes of the nation,” it stated.

In the most recent Nagaland assembly elections, the Congress had failed to win a single seat despite fielding 18 candidates.
