Nagaland Chess Challenger tourney begins

Kohima, May 23 (EMN): The 16th edition of Nagaland Chess Challenger tournament got underway at the Red Cross Conference Hall, Kohima on Tuesday. The tournament has been organised by the Nagaland Chess Association (NCA). K.Sekhamo, president of Nagaland Chess Association said that 40 players from across the districts and different schools are taking part in the three days tournament.
The three-day tournament will be played under two categories i.e. open category with 25 player and U-17 category, 15 players mainly of school going children are participating in the tournament. Kedizhalhou Yanao (age 65) is the oldest player and Shekupu Awomi (age 10) from Model Higher Secondary School is the youngest player taking part in the competition.
The president informed that the top 4 players in the open category will be taking part in the forthcoming National Open Chess championship, which will be held in the later part of this year.
