Kohima, August 6 (EMN): The 6th edition of the Naga Wrestle Mania (King of the Ring Series) 2017, organised by 3E Nagaland under the aegis of Nagaland Wrestling Association will be held from October 26 to 28 at Kohima local ground.
Making the announcement during a press conference held at KAT restaurant, near Secretariat junction, Kohima on Saturday evening, the organisers also informed about their desire of introducing the new super series which they said is under negotiation. The new super series – which is also considered as the fight of ultimate showdown, aims to bring together veteran Naga wrestlers once again to the wrestling arena at Khuochiezie. 3E convener Kethosituo Elvis Mepfhüo informed that the idea of the super series is to come up with dream matches between some prominent wrestlers based on popular opinion poll to be undertaken on 3E Nagaland facebook group/page. The new series, once introduced, will be welcomed by wrestling fans as they will get the opportunity to witness the performance of some of their all-time favourite wrestlers who retired years ago. The three-day event will also feature wrestling competitions in lightweight category (74 kg & below), heavyweight (Above 74 kg), juniors (14 years & below) and the King of the Ring Series, wherein the best 48 wrestlers from the lightweight and heavyweight categories will vie for the ultimate title.
Day-one of the event will be the competition for lightweight wrestlers, followed by the heavyweight and finally the junior championship and the King of the Ring Series on the third day. The ultimate champion of this year’s King of the Ring Series will fetch a cash award of Rs. 1,20,000/- along with the title belt, while the runner-up will receive Rs. 60,000/-. The two losing semifinalists will be given Rs. 30,000/- each. The winners of both lightweight and heavyweight championship will receive Rs. 50,000/- along with the title belt. The runner-up for both categories will win Rs. 30,000/- and followed by the losing semifinalists who will be given Rs. 10,000/- each. As for the junior championship, the cash award for the champ and
runner-up is fixed at Rs. 10,000/- and Rs. 3,000/- respectively. The two losing semifinalists will receive Rs. 2,000 each. It was informed that the registration for the championship will start on August 14 and end on October 14, 2017. Forms will be available at 3E office, 2nd Floor, Dzevi Building, near Local ground, North Gate, while it will also be available in various
outlets including Orchid Store, Razhü Point, Sports World, Taxi Stand, Tiara Restaurant, Sharon Complex, opposite SBI Chumukedima, Youth Snooker Café & Restaurant, near Petrol Pump, Jalukie, Zupo Book House & Stationery, Chozuba and Life Centre, near Cooperative Bank, Pfutsero. The entry fee is fixed at Rs. 500 for seniors and Rs. 200 for juniors. However, there will be free entry for wrestlers not belonging to Angami, Chakhesang, Zeliang and Poumai communities, it was informed.
