Kohima, April 5 (EMN): A 22-year-old Naga woman from Mao community committed suicide on Tuesday evening at Kammanahalli, Bengaluru. This was reported by Naga Students’ Union Bangalore (NSUB) on Wednesday afternoon. The body has been kept at Baptist hospital mortuary, Bangalore.
The victim has been identified as A Khodziine, daughter of Hriipuni Adahrii and hailing from Makhan Lovadziingho of Senapati district, Manipur.
Talking to Eastern Mirror, Nuthipru Neinu, assistant general secretary of NSUB, said the victim was staying with her sister. The incident took place on Tuesday evening at their house.
According to the statement issued on social media, ‘her parents had come to Bangalore a few weeks ago to see their two daughters in Bangalore and they were planning to go back together to Manipur for some official work and had booked their train tickets on the 10th of this month, however, while waiting for the day, this unfortunate incident took place last night.’When contacted, the president of Mao Students’ Union Bangalore, Levi Maheo said that they were still trying to get information from the victim’s friends. He also mentioned that the body would be sent back home by Thursday or Friday.
NSUB officials also stated that over the past few years there has been a substantial increase in suicide cases among Naga youngsters in Bangaluru. There are myriad reasons, some due to study pressure, work pressure, family issues etc., they said.
In a separate incident that took place in Bangalore, on February this year, Velu T Vadeo passed away in Bangalore. While on February 24, Rukutalu Nyekha who stayed at Hennur Cross, Bangalore fell down from the terrace while drying her clothes and seriously injured. However when all the victims had to be taken care and be sent back home, the union had no idea about those people residing in Bangalore, except after the incident, it came to notice of the NSUB in the hours of need. None of the victims were registered member of NSUB.
Further, Nuthipru Neinu advised the parents not to send their children outside with proper research and guidance to avoid untoward misfortunes. “There are more than 2000 Nagas residing in Bangalore, some are students, some are working professionals. This kind of case often happens in Bangalore. Most of the case happens because parents do not know what their children are doing in the city, constant check on their children’s is necessary,” he maintained.
