Naga students in Delhi reach out to save lives

Dimapur, June 24 (EMN): A blood donation camp was organised by the Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) in collaboration with the Helping Hands, an NGO with the theme ‘donate blood, save life’ for the Nagas in Delhi at All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ hospital in New Delhi on June 23. A press release from the union informed on Sunday.

More than hundred donors irrespective of tribes, communities, professions, age had come forward to donate blood that continued till late evening. The main purpose of blood donation camp was to provide instant blood to the Naga patient since many a time people struggled to get blood donors.

For the last few years, the union have experienced more patient from home came for a treatment in Delhi where the blood donors have to eventually accrued from students and working members residing in Delhi and NCR. Nevertheless, through this noble gesture the union assured that for at-least a year the basic requirement and immediate needs of Nagas young and old will be met, the press release stated.

The union claimed that this was the second phase that the NSUD has organised blood donation camp. It also informed that any Naga patient in Delhi is entitled to avail the facility by approaching the union. The Ao and Densu organisation also join hand and participated during the blood donation camp.

Chairman of the Helping Hands, IG Robin Hibu interacted with the volunteers during the camp. He reminded them that they are saving poor and needy people’s life. Also Hibu encouraged them to continue humanity service in the days to come. Further, he stated that no Northeast patient die for want of blood in any hospitals of Delhi.

The minister for Health and Family Welfare department, S Pangnyu Phom, spoke during the camp. He stated that health is the priority and blood donation camp should be institutionalised. Interacting with the union, he emphasised about the unity of Nagas in Delhi. Further, he assured that special provision for the poor Naga patient and ambulance for emergency case shall be considered in the capital city.

The union thanked Phom for his encouragement towards the union and willing to sponsor the blood donation camp. Besides, The NSUD expressed their sincere gratitude to the Head of Department AIIMS Blood Bank, New Delhi for their assistance.
