Naga leader from Myanmar calls on governor

Dimapur, April 20 (EMN): Athong Makury, a Naga scholar and president of the Council for Naga Affairs from Myanmar called on governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya on April 20 at the Raj Bhavan.

During his meeting with the governor, Athong Makury expressed gratitude to the Government of India for ‘taking constructive and positive initiatives for the welfare of international border area people,’ information about the meeting from the PRO to the governer, said on Wednesday.

Athong Makury is stated to have requested the governor to extend all assistance to developing infrastructure, road connectivity, besides building schools and colleges and medical facilities for the benefit of people living in the border areas.

Athong also apprised the governor about the need to develop trade routes via Avankhu under Meluri sub-division which, the press release from the governor’s PRO stated, would facilitate ‘more activities between Nagas living in Myanmar and Nagaland.’

Governor PB Acharya has informed him that he has already taken initiative to establish hospitals and schools under Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis in the border areas for the benefit of people living on both sides, the PRO stated.

“This will strengthen emotional and national integration at large. Governor also enquired about the well being of the Nagas living across the border,” the press release stated.
