Naga lad selected for international Taekwondo c’ship faces financial constraint

Kohima, March 20 (EMN): 15-year-old Heutingyi got selected to represent India at Hammamet 2018 World Taekwondo Junior Championships from April 6 to 7 and the World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament for Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games to be held from April 6 till the 13th in Hammamet, Tunisia. The selection trials were held at the Indoor Stadium Badminton Hall Dhanbad, Jharkhand from March 9 to 11 where he got selected.
He, however, faces financial constraints as his mother is unable to sponsor him and the coach was also not certain whether he would participate in the championship. Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Visabeiu Peseyie, state Taekwondo coach said ‘even though he is a very talented player, his mother is not in a position to sponsor for this championship. The selected players need to spend for their own trip. I’m happy but at the same time doubtful whether he will be able to take part.’
The coach also expressed that he has the quality and potential to win the medal at international level. Heutingyi is a player in U-55 kg weight category.
He also got opportunities to participate at the World School Games trial 2017 and World Cadet Taekwondo Championships in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt 2017 but could not participate for not obtaining Indian Passport, the coach informed.
Heutingyi hails from Jalukie, under Peren district.
He was a former taekwondo student of Jalukie Taekwondo Academy and IG Stadium Taekwondo Academy Kohima and currently under training in Taekwondo at Army Boys Company Ranikhet, Uttarakhand.
Heutingyi was selected to join the army boys Ranikhet in the year 2017, where players are provided free education, taekwondo training, accommodation and training for enrolment into Army on completion of education said the coach.
Some of his achievements are bronze medal at the 55th National School Games (2009) Margao in Goa, gold medalist at the 58th National School Games (2013), gold medalist at 59th National School Games (2013) Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, gold medalist at 31st National Sub-Junior Taekwondo Championships (2013) in Pune, Maharashtra, silver medalist at 32nd National Sub-junior Taekwondo Championships 2014 in Kurukshetra, Haryana, gold medalist at 62nd National School Games (2016) Ranga Reddy ,Telangana gold medalist at 3rd National Cadet Taekwondo championships (2017) Agra, UP, gold medalist at Kukkiwon Cup India International Championships (2017),Delhi and silver medalist at All India Inter-SAI Championships (2017), Delhi.
