Dimapur, April 22 (EMN): The Naga Council of Dimapur (NCD) has offered to give a face-lift to the old Naga Cemetery located at Lake View colony in Dimapur. A press release from the council informed about the decision on Sunday.
The old Naga Cemetery which is in use for more than 40 years has run out of space and is now closed, the NCD said.
The management will involve allocation of land for burials, and the maintenance of grounds, and landscaping. The maintenance of tombstone and other grave monuments will be the private responsibility of the deceased families as usual, it added.
The council said that the cemetery site was ‘densely outgrown’ by grass and weed. The cemetery was being maintained voluntarily by various fellowships and organizations in the past, it was informed. The management now wishes to plaster the spaces between the graves with concrete, the press release added.
Also, the council expressed concern that some of the families had put up iron railings around the gravers which the council said would cause inconvenience when plastering said areas. The council has requested that said structures be removed before April 24, failing which the council would do it.
The NCD appreciated organisations that had contributed to the upkeep of the cemetery. The council has appealed to organisations and institutions to step forward and contribute to the upkeep of the cemetery.
