Dimapur, Jan. 3: The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) on Tuesday came out ‘to strongly oppose’ the state government’s decision to go ahead with the ULB elections with 33% seat reservation for women.

This was informed through a press release issued today. It also informed that the NCD executive held a meeting with APO representatives lead by its president on January 2 last at Naga Council office chamber in connection with ULB elections 2017.
They also deliberated on the issue of ‘territory and jurisdiction related to urban local bodies election 2017’, it stated. ‘In this connection the APO has clarified that, question of claiming Dimapur as their territory/jurisdiction does not arise as Dimapur does not belong to any particular tribe or organisation nor it is under disputed over the issue, therefore Dimapur is a city for all Nagas’, the press release stated.

“Hence any section of tribe or organisation should not particularise Dimapur as someone’s territory or jurisdiction, which hurts the Nagas (sic) sentiments.”
