Kohima, Dec. 15 (EMN): The Naga Club observed on Saturday what it called a ‘centenary thanksgiving programme’ in Kohima. The group’s publicity committee issued a press release on Saturday informing about the event. The thanksgiving program ‘for the recently centenary celebration’ was held today at Pulie Badze Base Camp, in Jotsoma, in Kohima, the updates stated.
According to the press release, Kuolachalie Seyie, finance secretary of the group, said “Leave us alone to determine ourselves” was a ‘popular quote’ when the Naga Club was submitting a memorandum to the Simon Commission in the year 1929. He also ‘shared words of gratefulness to Almighty,’ the updates stated.
“Nagas have suffered subjugation by vastly superior powers outside in our modern history…we are still claimed to be proud that our forefathers did not hand down to us a ‘legacy of defeat story’ without severest defiant of our history and honour our people as a nation,” the press release quoted Seyie as having said.
“Naga Club would not be such an important institution as it is today had it not made its declaration of sovereignty before the British Statutory Commission in 1929 and the declaration before the British Statutory Commission would not have much value had we not firmly stood on the declaration as has done till date,” Seyie was said to have claimed. He urged the Nagas to “take up zeal and enthusiast spirit for the better future of the Nagas,” the updates added.
