Dimapur, April 16 (EMN): The NDPP and the PDA government have welcomed the extension of the period of ceasefire agreement between the government of India and three armed Naga groups with the GPRN/NSCN and the NSCN (Reformation) for another year with effect from April 28, 2019 to April 27, 2020; along with the signing of a “fresh cease fire agreement” between the Centre and the NSCN/GPRN (K) ,headed by Khango Konyak with effect from April 15,  2019.

“This gesture of the GoI and the NNPGs proves that all negotiating parties are committed to resolving the decades old Naga political issue. The NDPP-PDA believes that the ongoing dialogue between the negotiating parties will ultimately result in a solution that will be honourable, inclusive and acceptable to the people and that it will eventually bring lasting peace and settlement. It is the desire of the NDPP-PDA that the negotiating parties expedite the talks in-order that a final settlement can come about at the earliest since the “Framework Agreement” has already been signed on 3rd August 2015 and it is also now twenty-two years since the dialogues began in 1997.

“Though the state government is only a facilitator to the ongoing talks between the GoI and the NNPGs, it is the commitment of the NDPP-PDA to extend our fullest support and co-operation towards bringing about a permanent solution to the protracted Naga issue. With the coming onboard of the NNPGs to the negotiating table along with the ongoing talks and the signing of the Framework Agreement, the NDPP-PDA once again appeals for early resolution of the Indo-Naga peace process in line with the desire and cry of the people for lasting peace,” read a press statement from the NDPP on Tuesday.

Also, the NDPP has appealed to the people of Nagaland–as stakeholders—to continue to uphold “the all-important Naga issue, and we assure our cooperation in extending our support so that we have in place a final settlement that is honourable and acceptable at the earliest.”
