Mushroom cultivation training held in Kohima

Dimapur, April 1 (EMN): One-day mushroom cultivation training programme was conducted at DAO’s Conference Hall, Kohima. The training programme was sponsored by ICAR, Jharnapani, Dimapur and organised by KVK Kohima.
Scientist (Plant Protection), K. Michael Pienyii was the main resource person and DAO Kohima Vizonyii Lieziestu was a special guest.
In a keynote address, Vizonyii talked about the benefits of mushroom cultivation, keeping in view the nutritional and medicinal aspects of mushroom. He also apprised the trainees about the various indigenous species which can easily be cultivated and requested them to try those varieties as well.
In the Technical session, K. Michael Pienyii, gave point presentation on scientific methods of mushroom cultivation in detail. Management of pests and diseases were discussed at length. He encouraged the trainees to take up mushroom cultivation (preferably organic) as it can become a subsidiary source of income.
Hands-on demonstration was done for easy learning and the trainees also participated actively with the request to conduct more such trainings as it is beneficial to the entire society.
The programme was chaired by Zhiete, Scientist (Soil Conservation).
A total number of 48 trainees attented the training.
