In remembrance of Dr EW Clark, a Christian missionary known for evangelizing the Ao Naga, a camp called Pilgrim’s Haven will be build soon at the Clark’s suspension bridge in Mulongyimsen, in Mokokchung district.
The foundation stone of Pilgrim Rest Camp was dedicated by parliamentary secretary for Tourism C Apok Jamir on Tuesday. A host of leaders and council members from Molungyimsen and Ungma villages and others were present during the event.
The weather condition on Tuesday was rough but it did not deter the parliamentary secretary and his entourage to arrive at the site, located just after crossing the well-known suspension bridge, Clark’s bridge, over the Milak River.
The Pilgrim’s Rest Camp will consist of some buildings for visitors to Molungyimsen. The village was declared a heritage village by the state government of Nagaland in 2011. The camp will be built by Imolemba Jamir, currently the president of the Ao Senden.
The Tourism department of Nagaland will house facilities to ensure a comfortable stay for visitors at the rest camp.
Parliamentary Secretary C Apok Jamir, who was chief guest of a small inaugural program that was conducted at the site to mark the event, said that his arriving at Molungyimsen was a blessing for him and his family.
Apok Jamir also asserted that Molung has a history that has immensely contributed to the spread of the Gospel not only in the Ao Naga areas but to the various other Naga communities across the state.
‘Therefore, whatever initiatives is being initiated from here, I pray that the blessing of God be with us,’ the parliamentary secretary said.
He also said that the Tourism department had always been with Molung village ‘in every necessary developmental activity and will continue to offer a hand in every possible way.’
The politician has sought support from the community as well as active contribution of the Tourism authorities to make the Pilgrim Rest House ‘a reality.’
Others who spoke during the event were the president of the Ao Senden, Imolemba Jamir, and representatives from the Ungma village’s council, among others.
Pasto0r of Ungma Baptist Church Rev Dr Noklen Longkumer dedicated the service.
