KOHIMA — Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament S Phangnon Konyak has been nominated to represent India at the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, to be held in Rome, Italy, from June 19 to the 21st.

An official statement issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat confirmed her nomination, stating, that the Chairman of the Upper House has “nominated you to attend the Second Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue in Rome, Italy.”

The conference, organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in collaboration with the Italian Parliament and supported by Religions for Peace, will bring together parliamentarians, faith leaders, representatives of governments, UN bodies, international organisations, and civil society actors from across the globe.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Konyak expressed her gratitude to Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar for the nomination.

“Looking forward to attending this global conference, which stands as a significant step toward embracing inclusivity, dialogue and harmony across faiths and cultures,” she wrote.

She is scheduled to depart for Rome on June 18 and will return on June 22.

This year’s conference is themed “Strengthening Trust and Embracing Hope for Our Common Future,” and is aimed at fostering cooperation across faiths to address global challenges. The three-day event will build upon the Marrakesh Communiqué and other declarations adopted by the IPU, particularly those promoting peace, inclusion, and human rights.

The IPU, headquartered in Geneva, was founded in 1889 and has since grown into a global organisation comprising 181 member parliaments and 15 associate members. It works to empower parliaments to promote peace, democracy, and sustainable development through dialogue and cooperation.
