Dimapur, July 26 : Nagaland lone Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio has congratulated the Government of India on approving the new Civil Aviation Policy which has already come into effective implementation.

In a message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rio said, “We are confident that under the new policy the far flung regions of the country, especially the north eastern region, will be better connected by air and that overall air service will improve. We are also looking forward to more investments in the infrastructure development and enhancement and upgradation of existing infrastructure.”
Rio also extended deepest appreciation to government of India for approving the development of Chiethu Greenfield Airport in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, which is one of the few State capitals that still does not have an Airport.

“You are aware that the development of Chiethu Airport has been a long felt desire of the people of Nagaland and we have been actively pursuing its realisation for the past decade. The project was a political commitment of the then Honorable Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee but could not be realised till date but with the approval of the project under the new Civil Aviation Policy, the entire State has welcomed the development.”

In view of the State capital not having an airport and the overall poor air connectivity in the State and region, Rio requested the government of India to take up the Chiethu Airport as a national project.

He also requested Modi to give appropriate instructions to the concerned ministry and its officials to undertake development of air services and improvement of air connectivity in the northeastern region as topmost priority.

“I congratulate the government of India under your visionary leadership for approval of the new Civil Aviation Policy and assure you of our fullest cooperation in our collective endeavour of nation building.”
