Dimapur, September 2

Authorities have appealed to electricity consumers in Mokokchung district to go on power ‘austerity’ for some time and ‘stop using all kinds of electrical equipment and machinery’ but use only the barest minimum domestic light points till situation returns to normal.
The establishment of the executive engineer of Mokokchung’s electrical division issued a press release on Wednesday, September 2, appealing to the citizens of the town to minimize the use of power, as necessitate by low supply following the breakdown of the main power transformer for Mokokchung.
“After the main power 33/11kv 5MVA transformer broke down in Mokokchung, the town and its adjoining villages has been facing heavy load shedding and a high degree of power interruptions. The department is fully seized of the situation at all levels, and we share the difficulties faced by our esteemed consumers,” the electrical division stated in the press release.
The department assured that work are underway to restore the line. As a replacement, a 33/11kv 5MVA transformer is “currently under repair at Central Stores Dimapur, which is making good progress with more than 60% of the repair job being done,” the power authorities said.
“At present, intermittent power supply is being attempted with the existing. 2.5MVA transformer, but this is grossly inadequate. We are unable to charge some 11kv feeders like Faltu feeder and Bazar feeder, since its load is more than the 2.5MVA transformer capacity, and the line gets tripped instantaneously due to overload”.
The division also issued a photograph of a transmission depot showing red fuses “about to blow-out is shown (faltu feeder 1.09.15, 10p.m).”
The authorities stated that if the 2.5MVA transformer breaks down as well, “There will be complete black out.”
The department has appealed to every consumer in Mokokchung town and those in the affected adjoining villages to completely “stop using all kinds of electrical equipment and machinery and use only the barest minimum domestic light points till the 5MVA transformer is restored.”
