Diphu, April 14 (EMN): The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) will celebrate the Ujjwala Diwas, as a part of the “Gram Swaraj Abhiyan” on April 20. This was informed by district nodal officer Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts (Assam), Susibrat Sarma during a press conference held at Inghi Gas service, Rongbin Aklam on April 14 Saturday.
Sarma informed that one LPG Panchayat will be organised by each LPG distributor in his/her area of responsibility.
There are a total of 8 LPG distributors in the districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong and accordingly 8 LPG Panchayat are going to organised on the day.
A press statement was also distributed durign the press conference stated that that the day is target to hold 15000 LPG Panchayats on the Ujjwala Diwas being observed on April 20, where apart from experience sharing, aimed at safe and sustained usage of LPG, all out efforts will also be made to maximize the customer enrolment.
Each Panchayat will be targeting a participation of 500 women with a goal of enrolling atleast 100 new LPG beneficiaries. Safety literature- safety instruction and Insurance cards will also be distributed during the Panchayat session.
The statement also stated that the LPG Panchayat is a community meeting that serves as a platform for LPG consumers to interact with each other, promote mutual learning, and share their experiences . Also, each LPG Panchayat aims in bringing together about 500 women from the neighboring area inroder to provide a platform for Ujjwala LPG users and to share information on how to use LPG safely as well as to spread the message of its multiple benefits, like health, environment and empowerment of women.
While Sharma also informed that, under the revised scheme of Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana (PMUY), it has been approved to increase coverage from existing 5 cr. to 8 cr. BPL households till the the financial year (FY) 2019-2020 where the selection of women beneficiaries would be from the BPL families identified from the SECC list or BPL family covered under either one of the categories like SC/ST household, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY),Forest dwellers, most backward classes(MBC),Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes and people residing in island and river Islands.
Mention can also be made, Karbi Anglong being the largest district of more than 10,000 sq.km compared to others with average area 1500-5000 sq.kms population, the total population of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council is 9.65 lakh with 1.96 lakh (Active before PMUY-0.49 lacs), households; 1.03 lakh BPL households and 0.94 lacs (above 18 yrs of age) BPL households with women.
PMUY was launched in karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong on October 18 2017 and till date a total of 15761 numbers of SVs were issued since its launching.
